Believe

“It blasted it into shreds, the light coming out from every cell filled the forest.  For a second it felt as if the sun had crashed on Earth, the heat emitted from it made me faint. When I woke up, there was nothing but darkness. As I tried to make sense of what had just happened here I saw I was surrounded by people who were curiously looking at me. I saw their mouths move but heard no sound, everything was a blur and soon darkness took over.”
Hell with these overtly dramatic novels, where everyone’s either turning into a vampire or a wolf or have a ghost come and haunt them silly.  I mean, what is wrong in our human form but then unless there is some spice in the novel, who will read it other than a handful of people who like to read about serious topics and then sit and discuss on whose read what.  I would really like to read about some realistic books so I decided I would go to get some biographies.
It had snowed the previous day so I quickly got dressed and went out to the nearest bookstore to meet with Charlie, he always had a good list of books that one just had to read. Lost in my thoughts I  went on walking when I bumped into a lady who looked as me curiously as I quickly apologised. She surprised me with a smile and asked me if I was looking to read a new novel. I was astounded and  words failed me, I mean how did she come to know. Before I could answer she handed me a book and asked me to return it once I had read it. It was in a pitiful condition and I was afraid the paper would melt if I touched it.  I told her that I was going to go and get myself some biographies but to my utter dismay, the lady simply walked away giving me a deaf ear.  I didn’t know what to do but stare, I decided id put it away at Charlie’s and let him read it first while I get my hands on something interesting. As I started to walk, the thunder roared, the lightning struck and the rain came down hard. I had no option but to revert back home.
Back at home I kept the book on the shelf and went to make myself some lunch. I had some tuna and salad in the refrigerator so I started to make a sandwich and salad for myself. I sat on my couch flipped the channels to see what was coming but due to the heavy rain there was no signal. I sighed and put the remote away when I saw the book I was given earlier that day on the table next to my couch. I stared at it blankly, for I remembered putting it away on the shelf. But since I believed in practicality, I shrugged off the thought that the novel had travelled on its own.
Since there was no tv I opened the book and started to read. It was blank, I wondered if the lady was trying to pull out a prank on me. I flipped few pages but all of them were blank so I closed the book but suddenly I caught a glimpse of colour and when I opened it again, it was filled with colourful text. Now I really began to think, whether  I was hallucinating and so I decided to get some sleep. But there was something about the book that made me want to read it.
I started to read it expecting it to be on some supernatural experience but it was actually a story of a child who actually believed in destiny. It was of a child who was abandoned at a young age and was forced into child labour. He worked endlessly and earned a merger income, just enough to feed himself.  He narrated stories to his master’s son in his spare time, who eventually ended up compiling them in a book.  The salve boy always thought of himself as some imaginary character and believed he was the chosen one and narrated the stories as he envisioned himself being the vital character. He spoke of how events changed themselves to match the final destiny of the character.   While the slave child narrated the story, the master’s son would get so mesmerised in the tales that he started to believe that one can change their destiny by their deeds.
One day the master’s son fell really unwell and the doctors gave up on him. He was destined for his final fate; death. He was paralysed after he met with an accident while riding a horse. The slave boy saw the helplessness and fatigue in his master’s son’s eyes and he wanted to help. He decided to make up a story of a warrior who overcame any obstacle to reach his goal. This story helped the boy get the much needed motivation to try to move his limbs. Gradually with time he did recover.
After reading the entire story I realised, that, this story was another work of fiction by a little boy but it delivered a very important message; that; one doesn’t have to believe in the supernatural happenings but believe in their own strengths. If one puts their mind into bringing about change in themselves, then there is no stopping. I closed the book, and laughed thinking that, afterall, it was a fictitious story that brought a change in me.
